Bonding

Bonding is a conservative way to repair broken, chipped, discolored, or crooked teeth. During dental bonding, a tooth-colored filling, called a composite, is placed onto your tooth to improve its appearance. Composite is a very hard and durable plastic filling material. The filling "bonds" with your teeth, and because it comes in a variety of tooth-colored shades it closely matches the appearance of your natural teeth.

Composites are also used to restore teeth instead of amalgam (silver) fillings. Many patients prefer bonded fillings because the natural color is not noticeable compared to the amalgam fillings. Bonded fillings can be used on both front and back teeth depending on the location and extent of tooth decay.

Bonding is less expensive than other cosmetic treatments and usually can be completed in one appointment. However, bonding can stain and is easier to break than other cosmetic restorations such as porcelain veneers. If the bonding does break or chip it can generally be easily repaired in one visit.
